[Ntop] GeoIP

Im trying to compile ntop and am running into a problem when it checks for GeoIP.  It does the following then stops.

Removing dups and misplaced entries from LIBS and INCS...
checking for GeoIP_record_by_ipnum in -lGeoIP... no
Please install GeoIP (http://www.maxmind.com/)

I went to maxmind.com and compiled GeoIP-1.4.6 c api (downloaded here: http://www.maxmind.com/app/c ).  I still get the error with the ntop fix.  How can I get past this?

Running SLES 11 and trying to compile ntop 3.4-Pre3
