[Ntop-dev] ntop-3.3-rc0: autotools breakage?

Every since ntop-3.3rc0, I have not been able to build ntop on my Fedora 
Core 6 system.  The previous days cvs worked ok.  Every cvs after 
ntop-3.3rc0 has also not worked.

The build always terminates with:

Since there seemed to be a bunch of autotools related updates moving to the 
rc0 and I didn't understand the problem, I did a bisection of the changes 
and came up with a patch that will cause the build to suceed on my my 
system, although I have no idea why.  I was hoping that someone who 
understand the autotools setup here could give me a hand with what is going 
on.
